Metro Building Services was founded by Mike Stevens in 2000. Mike, a Detroit native now living in Clarkston, began his building career in the mid-60’s, when he worked as an Electrical Estimator for a large electrical contracting company. By the early 1970’s, Mike obtained his Degree in Heating and Cooling, as well as his Mechanical License. He worked in a sheet metal union shop that specialized in heating and cooling.
In 1979, Mike joined Energy Conversion Devices as their Facilities Manager, where he was responsible for building clean rooms. He gained valuable experience in the Commercial Building Industry. In 1986, Mike was recruited by Optical Imaging Systems as their Facilities Director, working on Government Facilities, such as building flat panel displays for the Aircraft Industry.
His greatest project was his role as Project Manager for the construction of a $140,000,000 clean room facility in Michigan. They broke ground in 1993 and opened their doors in November 1994. This was the largest clean room facility this side of the Mississippi. Mike recruited a strong team of 26 people to build and manage the facility.
Mike then set up Accurate Building Services in 1998 with 3 other partners. By 2000, Mike had bought his partners out and Metro Building Services was born. Since then, MBS has grown each year and expanded their staff.
The Metro Team
Don worked with General Motors for 34 years as a Truck Engineering Heating and Cooling Technician. He obtained an Associates Degree in Automotive Servicing Technology.
Don is the kind of guy to complete all his own home improvement projects, so when he left GM, he joined the team of Home Depot in Auburn Hills working Hardware. It was here that Don became a specialist in residential and commercial tools and hardware identification. During his 4 years with Home Depot, Don made sure that contractors were using the right hardware for various textures and materials in both the commercial and residential fields.
Don makes sure that we always use the right tools and materials for our clients to provide them with the best quality and the best price.
Ben Bourgeau is the youngest member of our team, having graduated from Lake Orion High School in 1997.
From there he joined Northwood University in Midland Michigan and obtained his Automotive Aftermarket Degree when he graduated in 1999.
Later that year, Ben went to work for Penske, as a Customer Service Representative for the Automotive Division. When the company went into liquidation Ben moved on to Casual Concepts as a Warehouse Manager where he obtained experience in logistics, warehousing, management and commercial building maintenance.
In 2004 Ben was awarded a Bronze Medal in Michigan from Skills USA for HVAC. Shortly thereafter, Ben was offered an opportunity to join Hartford and Ratcliff as a Technician where he grew his skills for residential and commercial maintenance, repair and installation.
It was Ben’s high aptitude for mechanical and electrical systems that made him an appealing team member for Metro Building Services, so when he joined the team in 2008 Ben was promoted to Lead HVAC Technician and has brought valuable skills to the team.
